Pre-glazed Systems
Key Glass has developed the idea of off site production by offering Pre-glazed Systems. We have upgraded the fabrication of storefront windows into completely glazed units ready for installation on site when the project is ready. Advanced planning and coordination allows us to keep up with the fast pace of construction and the challenges of an accelerated project schedule.Key Glass has found that pre-glazing a system in house allows us to control the quality and the speed of glazing a frame. The contractor and owner benefit from the ability to “dry-in” the building so other work can progress and offers a higher quality of product afforded by shop fabrication. While the structure is going up, we are busy fabricating the window unit in our shop. It also allows us a great opportunity to acquire and coordinate the materials during the fabrication in turn increasing our efficiency while reducing our costs. We build while the building is being built.
Water Testing
Key Glass takes pride in installing systems correctly. Water-testing is a way to check an installation for leaks, proper manufacturing and installation.
The test procedure best simulates the effects of nature and is capable of being used in field applications where it is most useful. AAMA 502.2 and ASTM E1105 describe the procedures and methods of the test. The effectiveness of this testing procedure has been documented over many, many tests performed over the years. It is a very suitable means of testing the installation of a window, storefront or curtainwall.
The process of testing involves the attachment of a pressure chamber made of wood and vinyl sheet pushed against an opening. It is held in place by negative suction from a fan motor and hose assembly that includes a regulator to control the amount of suction. The suction is measured by a special gauge capable of measuring pressure using “inches of water.” The numeric value of “inches of water” translates to a pressure of air measured in pounds per square foot. This is how a differential pressure is created to simulate wind driving rain against the window.
Key Glass has taken the initiative to water-test window systems they fabricate and install.
Profile Machinery
In today’s marketplace price, efficiency and quality are of utmost concern. In an effort to meet the concerns of the marketplace, Key Glass made a significant investment in an elumatec SBZ 122 Profile Machine Center. This machining center is a state of the art computer controlled piece of equipment that performs machining and drilling of lineal extrusions with great speed and accuracy.
The fabrication of a typical frame jamb would take 30 minutes to do by hand is now easily produced in 3 minutes on this modern equipment. Our accuracy has shrunk from .0625” to .001”. These accuracy improvements produce a more uniform looking finished product with tighter finished joints that will keep water out of the window system and the building.
No staff was lost through the implementation of this machine, the time savings has given Key Glass the opportunity to get on their jobs sooner, ultimately reducing their installation and projects duration.
All very important factors for our clients to consider in today’s competitive market.
Break metal capabilities
Key Glass has the ability to provide fabrication for brake metal projects along with special finishes and transportation. The Schechtl MAB 4000 & MTB 4000 leads the industry today in production speed and versatility for folding and sheering.
Brake Metal Capabilities:
- Brake length capabilities up to 156”
- Shear length capabilities up to 156”
- Maximum thickness .063
